Hello Chai Lovers,

Now that winter has officially arrived in Melbourne, it’s time to bundle up against the cold with a steaming cup of Prana Chai. 

If you’re staying on the couch enjoying some much-needed relaxation, #OnlyTheGoodStuff is the perfect cold weather brew. As you may know, this time last year we successfully launched two new flavours to the Prana Chai range - Turmeric Blend & Peppermint Blend. With the weather getting chillier outside they have been flying out the door!

A cup of Chai with Olivia from Yum Gluten Free

After nine years of unexplained symptoms, Olivia was diagnosed with coeliac disease in 2010. She has always been a lover of food, health, and wellness and has channeled this diagnosis into a passion for spreading awareness about the harmful effects of gluten on those with coeliac disease. With her background in public health and nutrition, she is passionate about increasing awareness for coeliac disease, sharing practical tips and tricks for managing strict dietary restrictions and connecting gluten free products to consumers everywhere!

  1. Could you tell us how the idea for the magazine came about and how did it grow? 

yum. Gluten Free is a few things; all have a core purpose. It is an online platform for all things coeliac disease and gluten free living, it's an online course to make your gluten free life more manageable and, most recently, it's a quarterly digital magazine! As a diagnosed coeliac, I struggled for years with food anxiety and confidence with my condition. My mission withYGF is for those with coeliac disease or other dietary restrictions to feel confident and in control of their needs. That includes dining out, holidays with families and travelling too!

  1. The strangest thing about you? 

I'm a half Canadian-American, living in Australia and married to a Dutch-born, half Kiwi, half British Aussie! Did you get all that? It makes visiting ‘home’ a little complicated (and very expensive!) 

  1. If you could invite two people to a dinner party, who would that be and why? 

One of my biggest inspirations is Danielle Walker fromAgainst All Grain. She has such a powerful business and personal testimony and I feel like we would genuinely be great friends! She always speaks her truth and isn’t afraid to be honest in all areas, even when it’s uncomfortable. Her heart always shines through.
Will Smith would be my ultimate celebrity catch-up! He is equal parts hilarious and authentic and I would love to learn about his acting journey. I can’t imagine a dull dinner party with Will Smith around. Also, I’m unashamedly a madPrince of Bel Air fan!

  1. What is the best advice you've been given? 

 If there’s one thing guaranteed to hold us back in life, it’s our self-limiting beliefs. This is why I love this advice given by Henry Ford, ‘Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t - you’re right.’

  1. What is the question that you wish more people asked and why?

‘How are you? No really, how are you, and how can I support you?’We oftentimes go through life looking strong on the outside yet feeling weak inside. It only takes one person in your life to inspire/grow/challenge you and potentially shift the direction of your life. I believe that asking someone how they are should be more than a two-minute conversation. This is possibly why my ‘casual coffee (or chai) catch ups’ go for hours!

  1. Who are your top three instagram crushes and why do you love them? 

@shutthekaleup Jeanette is just a regular wife and mother who made her business successful by being authentically ‘her’. I love the way she treats her body and her family and I get excited learning about her ever-growing journey.

@osher_gunsberg Osher is someone in the reality TV world that you can look up to - isn't that a welcome change! Osher took his struggles with mental illness and used them to create an incredible platform to raise awareness and increase acceptance in this complicated, and often minimised, medical space. He is true to himself, raw in his conversation and also hilarious. Oh, and I recently learned that he was diagnosed with coeliac disease last year so now I feel like we are future friends!

@livelovenourishaus Casey-Lee was once an Instagram crush and is now a best friend! The best part of social media is when you’re able to bring internet and reality together. It’s so beautiful how you can watch people’s stories unfold and already have a booklet of talking points from the get-go (great for an introvert like me!) Casey-Lee is a strong mother of two girls and lives to nourish their hearts, minds and bodies daily. She is a world-changer and I’m so blessed to now call her a friend!

    1- Regarding your journey with Prana Chai - what's your first experience of the Prana Chai team and what are you the most excited about?

    My first experience with the team as a whole was in March 2019 when the global Prana Chai sales family travelled to Melbourne from around the globe. We all worked together sharing ideas and stories that will help us share the fantastic product that is Prana Chai. Prana Chai is at an exciting stage in its life. It has matured from ‘new kid on the block’ to market leader. I'm excited about building the team with new members and introducing Prana Chai into new regions across the globe. Everyone has a great sense of pride in what they do here at Prana Chai and I'm excited to help bring that to new places.

    2- If you could describe the Prana Chai team in one word?


    3- What is your wildest dream?

    To be an amazing singer. Not even a famous one, but just a really really good singer. FYI I'm terrible. 😂

    4- Where do you see yourself in ten years?

    In ten years my girls will be a 17 year old and a 15 year old. I think I'll be staying up late a lot (drinking The Good Stuff) while waiting for a phone call to come and pick them up from somewhere, and I won't mind a bit! I'll also be continuing to work my way through my husband’s extensive wine collection, I will have gone to plenty more amazing restaurants, and I will have added to my collection of programmes from the stage shows and concerts I've been to. Hopefully, I will have travelled to more countries like Greece or Croatia and will have shown my daughters some different parts of the world with my husband Chris.

    5- What is your favourite cafe in Melbourne and why? What's your choice of coffee?

    At the moment it has to be Battle in Blackburn North - great coffee, great service. Ben, the owner, is a local and he looks after his customers and his neighbouring businesses.  The fit out is clean, cosy and there are power points to connect the computer as well as wifi (this is a must for me now while I work out and about). I also love The Little Woodpecker, again in Blackburn North. I love going there to catch up with the school mums for coffee and I highly recommend the ‘Robin’ dish. Tanya makes you feel at home there.

    I'm a skinny latte girl and I love a good espresso martini!

    6- If you could travel a city or a country tomorrow, where would that be and why?

    I would go to New York with my girlfriends. I've been before in winter and would love to go to experience spring or summer. I want to go and see stage show after stage show, check out some cool bars like Atta Boy by Michael McIlroy andSam Ross, maybe take a Soul Cycle class (this would be hilarious), and check out some great places to go dancing in Soho or the Meatpacking District. I'd love to see a gospel choir as well.

    Doing More with Chai

    Chai . . . It’s not just for sipping. There are countless ways to integrate healthy, tasty chai into your everyday life. Here is one for you:

    • 100ml water
    • 40gPrana Chai
    • 500ml milk (Oatly has used in this recipe, any milk choice of yours is fine)
    • 6 tbsp chia seeds
    • 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
    • 1 tbsp honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
    • berries or nuts, for topping(optional)

    In a small pot, put 40g of Prana Chai and add 100ml of water. Stir and bring to the boil..

    Once the chai is infused, remove from the heat and strain. 

    Add your choice of milk to the Prana Chai extract, stir well, and set aside.  

    In a bowl or mason jar, mix together chia seeds, chai spiced milk, honey and vanilla. If you’re using a mason jar, you can put the lid on and shake the mixture to combine everything.

    Once the chia pudding mixture is well combined, let it sit for five minutes before giving it another stir or shake to break up any clumps of chia seeds. Cover and put the mixture in the fridge to for anywhere between one hour to overnight

    Top the pudding with your favourite toppings, such as berries and crushed nuts, and enjoy.
